THE NEW FACE OF THE CANSMITH ADVERTISING AGENCY IN MUNICH – MY INTERNSHIP
You do not know me yet? My internship has just begun. I am the new face at the Cansmith Advertising Agency in Munich. My name is Paulina Mann, I am 20 years old and I come from the far north – more precisely from Wilhelmshaven.
There I study “Media Management and Journalism” at the Jadehochschule .
Currently I am in the 4th semester and what does it mean? Of course … the Praxissemester is at the door! And that’s exactly what I’m doing at Cansmith.
EVERYONE ASKS THEMSELVES AT THE BEGINNING OF THE APPLICATION PHASE FOR AN INTERNSHIP 3 QUESTIONS:
IN WHICH AREA DO I WANT?
For me it was clear from the start that I would like to put my studies contents so far completely into practice. I would like to look into all departments and departments in an advertising agency, try everything out and take as much as possible for me and the study. This is exactly what I can do at the Cansmith Werbeagentur in Munich!
LARGE OR SMALL COMPANY?
When I asked myself that, I was pretty torn. On the one hand, I might be just a number in a large company and would have to take on tasks such as cooking, bringing food or sorting documents. On the other hand, I would have had a point in the CV, which would probably have opened many new doors later on.
But what does it all mean if the practice semester is not used to apply the theory, to gather new experiences, to improve oneself, and thus to start after the practical phase in the university.
That’s exactly why I chose a smaller agency. Everyone knows everyone here. Here everything is more personal. Confidant. And here can be directly tackled. Especially the working atmosphere is decisive for a successful internship.
Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne and Berlin are probably the largest contact points for media students. Not only are they big cities – they are also the media cities in Germany at the same time. One of the sites had to be, it was clear to me and it was Munich.
MY FIRST 2 WEEKS IN THE INTERNSHIP
But now for my first two weeks in the internship. On my first day, I was directly involved in the agency day. This means that all the projects where Philip and Chris are working were presented to me, and then it was already going on.
I got my own workspace, which was set up for me and was able to try me directly on different projects.
For the DERAG Livinghotel in Frankfurt we should design your elevator. On the one hand should be a map of Frankfurt, which symbolizes the proximity of the hotel to the city center. I was dared to take this card. Over Illustrator I have traced the lines with the help of an underlying map and adapted the color to the hotel.
Sightseeing sites had to be found and drawn into the map. How are the locations to be represented … by points? by their appearance? A legend or rather directly into the map?
These and even more decisions had to be made. Trying out and communicating is the key word here, because this creates the best ideas.

But I find that the most important thing is the atmosphere that prevails in the advertising agency. The mood is always good, by the way dudelt music and the lunch breaks are usually also together. Overall, the start-up life is quite open, loose and creative.
By working with the Adobe Creative Cloud programs every day, I find myself in the programs getting better and better, get to know new functions and improve my way of dealing with them. Especially the watching – for example when programming a website via WordPress – helps me a lot if I had never seen it before. Explanations are, of course, included.
I am sure that it will be a nice time here in Munich, at the Cansmith Agency.
